I think you're creating obstacles for yourself when there isn't one, you could easily just be like "Tactical Dater here, so anyway, how are the bios treatin ya around here" and brush it off without any resistance. No reason to end the convo

Maybe say something in passing awknowlegement, i.e. "I guess",
and then proceed the conversation topic to something else, or start teasing back in whatever way you see fit.
That's what I figure the best idea is anyways...
