Just wondering how I could’ve responded better to keep the convo going. She said she didn’t like sushi in her bio so that’s where I was going with my response, but it obviously didn’t land. I just couldn’t think of anything else. Curious what you guys come up with.

Don't beat yourself up over this, it happens, i thought your response was funny (with the context you provided), but maybe you agreeing with her on hating sushi made you beta in her eyes.
In general just ask how her cheeky/freaky/wild/funny (wahtever day it is) was. You can't go wrong with that.
Try to think about how the women could possibly respond to whatever you’re asking
In this case had she responded it would’ve been more than likely a one word answer, like “yeah” or “ yeah I hate sushi”
Which still leads nowhere
I would have said “ yeah I like to keep things simple and easy, it’ll make our first date more fun”
That would have at least checked her intentions
And you could have move forward accordingly
