Tough one, because she is kinda right, it does seem a bit too try hard.
Your response wasn’t optimal, you could have perhaps been playful and “agreed” and amplified the amateur comment which would have been more light hearted. Yeah that means she would tease you further, but that in itself is a good thing because at least you can keep coming back to her with witty responses.
